The relection of the water on the wall of Waianapanapa Cave.

The legend of Waianapanapa Cave tells the story of a beautiful princess, running for her life from her cruel husband.  She stopped to rest near the calm waters of WaianapanapaCave, and her handmaiden fanned her with a feather.  Feathers were the symbol of royalty, and when the princess’ husband saw the feather reflected in the water, he knew he had found her.  He killed her on the spot, staining the water an angry red, and every year hundreds of shrimp migrate to the cave, turning the glistening water red once again.
