Maliko Gulch – the entrance to the big wave surfing spot of Jaws – also marks the beginning of the town of Haiku, where million dollar mansions sit side by side with restored plantation shacks and chickens freely wander the yards between the two. Haiku is known for the beautiful tropical flowers that grow amongst lush greenery – after, all, in Haiku you are practically in Maui’s rainforest. Even though it only boasts a couple of stores, some industrial buildings, and a post office, Haiku is still considered civilization’s very last outpost before Hana.
