The residents of Keanae Peninsula practice sustainable taro farming just like the ancient Hawaiians.  Over 180 taro fields are in prduction in Keanae.  Taro is one of the most nourishing foods in the world, and the root can be pounded into poi, a staple Hawaiian food.  Taro grows in mud under a couple of feet of freshly circulated water, meaning water is crucial to life in Keanae.  Luckily, Keanae is blessed with an abundance of water from both sea and sky.
