The Fish Ponds of Hamoa

Hamoa Beach and its ancient, manmade fishponds are  created by lava rock walls peeking over the edge of the ocean, these ponds represent the spophisticated fishing techniques that have been practiced by Hawaiians for thousands of years.  In the past, these fishponds were used to cultivate exclusive species of fish that were only eaten by chiefs and kings.  Today, the ponds are off limits to tourists, so don’t touch them – but be sure to take the time to look at this remnant of Hawaii’s ancient days.
