A very common and eye catching sight on Maui is the beautiful and colorful Bougainvillea tree. A symbol of tropical beauty it comes from the Nyetayinacce family of small trees, vines and shrubs. It bears a galabra or “paper flower” so called because of its paper-like bracts. The trees can grow up to 15-25ft high and 25-35ft wide. They come in red, purple, orange, apricot, white, pink, cream, yellow and bi-color mutations. The Hana Picnic Lunch Co.has information on this and other tropical plants and where to find them along the Road to Hana. Check them out!
